Downloaded a free Photoshop brush set at grutbrushes.com the other day and immediately began painting after I got them set-up.  The whole reason I got this set was for the Impasto brush, but they had a couple other winners in there too.

I’ve always enjoyed how the impasto style was so thick and rich in textures, regardless of the subject matter of the painting.  Here, I was just playing around and getting use to how the brush flowed at different opacity settings and the like, but at the same time I kinda wanted to work on intimating some of that same thickness and texture.

I’m looking forward to painting some loose portraits with this brush sometime in the future.  Until then.  Enjoy the Journey.

  1. Thanks for the nice words about my brushes Jesse! I’m so glad you like the impasto brushes. I worked really hard to try to get something even slightly approaching the rich creamy feeling you get with real oils on canvas and I’m so happy to see other people enjoying these as much as I do. If you don’t have full impasto set, send me an email, I’d love to send you the rest of the impastos! From looking at your work on this blog they would be in great hands! If you do have them, maybe one of your readers could use a free set. All the best, Nicolai (info@grutbrushes.com)
